Ramadan can be one of the most beautiful months of the year but as a revert sister in the UK, it can also feel overwhelming and, at times, lonely. Especially when you don’t yet have a strong Muslim circle around you, or you’re unsure where you fit in.
If this is you, please know: you are not alone in feeling this way, and there are things you can do in advance to make Ramadan feel connected, supported, and spiritually uplifting.
The Reality for Revert Sisters
Many born Muslims grow up with:
Family iftars every evening
Community mosque events
Lifelong Muslim friends
As a revert, you might be:
Fasting alone
Breaking your fast at home
Searching Instagram or Google for “sisters iftar UK”
Feeling shy about turning up alone
And that’s okay. Ramadan doesn’t have to look a certain way to be meaningful.
Start Looking for Sister Circles Before Ramadan
One of the biggest tips is: don’t wait until the first fast to search for community.
Here’s what you can do now:
Search for “Muslim sisters circle + your city”
Look on Instagram, Eventbrite, and Facebook groups
Follow local mosques and Islamic centres (many post sisters-only events closer to Ramadan)
Look for revert-specific or women-only halaqahs
Even attending one event a week can completely change your Ramadan experience.
Plan Iftars That Feel Safe and Comfortable
If mosque iftars feel intimidating at first, ease yourself in gently:
Invite one sister you’ve connected with online
Arrange a simple iftar at a Muslim-friendly restaurant
Attend women-only iftars (these are growing more common in the UK)
Breaking your fast with another fasting sister or bring along a non muslim family member even once can lift your heart more than you realise and your non muslim family or friend will have a unique experience too.
If You Work: Prepare Your Iftars in Advance
If you work long hours or shifts:
Meal prep simple iftars (dates, soup, wraps)
Keep emergency iftar packs in your bag
Let colleagues know Ramadan is coming (you don’t need to explain everything)
Your fast is still valid, still rewarded, even if it’s quiet and simple.
Loneliness Does Not Reduce Your Reward
Allah sees:
The quiet iftars
The tears
The effort you’re making as a revert
The courage it takes to practise Islam in a non-Muslim environment
Your Ramadan may look different but different does not mean less.
🤍 You belong. And this month belongs to you too.
