Do I need to know everything before becoming Muslim?
No. Absolutely not.
One of the biggest misconceptions is that you need to know everything about Islam before taking shahadah. The truth is, if you wait until you know everything, you may never feel “ready” because learning Islam is a lifelong journey.
To become Muslim, you need to sincerely believe:
- There is no god worthy of worship except Allah
- Muhammad ﷺ is the messenger of Allah
That is the foundation.
You do not need to know every rule, every Arabic phrase, or every answer to every question before becoming Muslim. Knowledge grows with time.

How do I actually become Muslim?
Becoming Muslim is simple. You say the shahadah with sincerity and belief:
Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasul Allah.
I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
You can say it privately if you truly believe it, and you become Muslim. Many people also choose to say it at a mosque so they can have support and witnesses, but it is not required.
